BRK fans post a goodbye video

A little while after BigRedKitty closed shop on his blog last week, there was another post from TJ on there asking for help with a “secret project” (that lots of you let us know about — thanks!). And now, the secret has been revealed: a few of BRK’s fans have put together a goodbye video for the knowledgeable Hunter with the big red cat, and you can watch the whole thing above. Very touching, and very cool to see a community come together to thank someone who’s done a lot for them. BRK also reported on his blog this week that he hasn’t left Warcraft for good, but it does sound like the choice to focus on his real life and family rather than what happens in Azeroth was an excellent one. We’ve also heard, through the grapevine, that Blizzard may be honoring BRK in their own way in the future, much like they did with Phaelia of Resto4Life. We’ll keep an eye out for nay Big Red items we may come across.

Tuesday Morning Post: 3rd patch is the charm edition

We’ve had a week of Patch 3.1.1, and all seems… well, more or less well. There’s been hotfixes nearly every day, and scattered reports that talents are still being wonky for some people, but the major bugs seem to be squelched. Maybe. We have an extended maintenance again this week which will herald patch 3.1.1a. This means you wow goldhave plenty of time to read WoW Insider. Here’s the usual roundup of the past week’s hot news. Hot News and Features Oh yeah, here’s the hottest news: A new 5-man coming in a future patch is confirmed. We also had the exclusive first announcement of the Peggle Addon for WoW. Noblegarden is finally in full swing. We have an achievement guide and a FAQ, as well as Egg hunting suggestions. Is WoW coming to iPhone? Here’s some footage that suggests it may be closer than you think. The War between the Horde and the Alliance is heating up, and we’re taking a look at the lore behind it and where it may lead in the future. Is Varian Wrynn Right or Wrong? So what is the Sunwell effect, and what does it have to do with 25 and 10

All the World’s a Stage: The Art of Roleplaying

This week, David returns (again) to All the World’s a Stage as a newly married man, feeling particularly happy and joyful, and overflowing with enthusiasm for just about everything he loves in life. The relationship between rolelplaying and real life is a multifaceted one. If you have read this column before, you’ve probably seen some mention of roleplaying as a creative art form, but for some readers, it might be a bit difficult to imagine roleplaying as an art. After all, some might say, it’s just a bunch of people sitting around, pretending their characters are real people, having real problems and real stories, all in spite of a game environment in which one’s character can’t actually affect the world in any way that matters. Problems of continuity, such as instanced dungeons in which many people can slay the same monster at the same time over and over again, make some people feel as though there’s no story value to the game at all, and that anything roleplayers do is a waste of their time. The trick for roleplayers is to think of roleplaying as something

Insider Trader: Evolution of Fishing

Insider Trader is your inside line on making, selling, buying and using player-made products. Patch 3.1 brought many welcome changes to the Fishing profession, including a Turtle mount and new Fishing daily quests. These not only add incentives to go out and fish, they also make doing a little fishing each day easier. Of course, players can never have enough improvements, and still have many gripes about the way that the profession works. This week, I will be discussing different perspectives on the activity, as well as the challenges that Blizzard faces when considering which changes to make, and which feedback to tackle. Why we love to fish Fishing can be relaxing as well as profitable. I used to love seeking out secluded areas along seldom-visited shores, perhaps in the green hues of Feralas or upon one of the many rocky outcroppings in the Bay of Storms. Sometimes, our guild would call this “story time.” One or two of us might be off fishing, another mindlessly grinding mobs, and we would tell our PuG horror stories, have a friendly debate over one game mechanic or another, and

The Daily Quest: The Hunting Lodge and Child’s Play

We here at WoW Insider are on a Daily Quest to bring you interesting, informative and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere. The Hunting Lodge is running a charity auction for Child’s Play next week. There’s a compelling story to read over on Brigwyn’s site, and I humbly suggest that everyone takes a moment to go over there and read how this great charity was able to help his family out. While games and gamers can get bad press, all anyone needs to do is to look at the story Brigwyn posted (and others have echoed around the net at various points) and be convinced otherwise. And after you’ve visited the Hunting Lodge, there are some other great stories to check out around the wownet: The Big Bear Butt says retro raiding just because! Twinkinfo has an interesting note about WoW sponsoring an NBA playoff game. Check out this plush moonkin made by Serthida of Bloodhoof. It’s cute!

Extended maintenance for Patch 3.1: the European edition

When I first had a chat with the Big Giant Heads who run WoW Insider and Massively, they were under the impression that I dwell in the future. Sadly not, even if I am on GMT. I had to explain that, no, we don’t get patches before North America but rather we have to wait an extra day to enjoy all the new patch goodness. So it’s Wednesday morning in the UK and guess what? Yes wow goldwe have extended maintenance on all European realms. Hmm, what could this mean? Ah yes, could it be, 3.1. So all realms, the Armoury, Account Management and the Blizzard Store will be down from 3am until 11am (CET). Fortunately, there’s plenty to be doing while you wait. Personally, I will have the official trailer on repeat. For your convenience you can see it below, and while I agree with Alex that Jaina looks different, I actually prefer her in the trailer! The new character animations look amazing and she in particular finally looks human. While I make no secrets that I play Alliance, I have to side with the Horde on this one (sorry Daniel)! Varian Wrynn is just becoming xenophobic and paranoid which

Common updating problems and tips for fixing them

It’s patch day, of course, and people are having plenty of troubles with upgrading their clients to the latest 3.1 version. But worry not — most of the issues we’re seeing, while relatively widespread, should be fixed by the time the realms come back online. Here’s a few tips to help you get through the time of trouble. Help! My patch isn’t downloading? It’s stuck at 68%/73%/xx%! It probably is downloading — be patient and let it run. Blizzard uses a Bittorrent-based system to distribute the game’s patches through the official client, and those systems depend not just on Blizzard and their ability to distribute the patch, but also how much of the patch all of your peers have. If everyone around you has xx%, that’s all you’ll get for now. But an hour from now, someone will have spread the full patch around, and then you’ll pick it up no problem. Patience is a virtue, and until the realms come back up, you can’t play anyway. Also, the patcher will stop showing progress around 70% or so — at that point it’ll start

Around Azeroth: Life’s a beach

Andres writes in, “Ahhh, the gorgeous sunset of Stranglethorn. It’s nice to view. Right before you’re ganked trying to make it towards the Zandalar tribe. Don’t stand idle for too long staring off into the distance. That sound? Wasn’t the wind. Best be on your way.” In before “I thought you said no more sunsets!” The rules have changed, my friends, and wow goldwe can all use a little sun occasionally. Around Azeroth: The purple dusk of twilight time

The simple beauty of nightfall in Darkshore is captured in this screenshot by Exminator of <Paragon> on The Maelstrom-EU. Sadly, this moment of peace and tranquility is not enough to wipe my memory wow goldof what a nightmare it is to level through this zone, the home of some of the worst quests ever designed. Deep Ocean, Vast Sea? The Absent-Minded Prospector? And let’s not forget The Sleeper Has Awakened, the only escort quest in the game designed to make you fail horribly at the end unless you completely deviate from the logical path. Oh, and there’s murlocs. So many murlocs. Do you have any unusual, beautiful or interesting World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We’d love to see them on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@wowinsider.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. Insider Trader: All about patch 3.1

Insider Trader is your inside line on making, selling, buying and using player-made products. This week Insider Trader will be discussing everything craftspeople need to know about patch 3.1. By the end of this article, you will know what you should be doing to prepare for patch day, what will be changing, and how the community is reacting to these changes. I have been covering these topics to the best of my abilities as information has been released and altered over the weeks, but as we draw closer to patch day, the post-patch scene is becoming increasingly easy to visualize. Alchemy, Inscription and Herbalism Flasks are seeing a major overhaul, which was thoroughly covered in an earlier guide to 3.1 flask production and use. While the community remains open to these changes, the Flask of Stoneblood has been a major point of contention. There are currently only four flasks available to high-end Wrath raiders, and Stoneblood the only tank-oriented one, as long as one is defense capped. Unfortunately, the hit points that it offered were arguably not worth the materials or the bother. Currently, the
