Spiritual Guidance: 2 Talent Specs to Power Your Priest to 80

Spiritual Guidance: 2 Talent Specs to Power Your Priest to 80 Every Sunday (usually), Spiritual Guidance will offer practical insight for priests of the holy profession. Your host is now Matt Low, the grand poobah of World of Matticus and a founder of PlusHeal, a new healing community for all restorative classes. Matt scored a beta key and busied himself speccing and respeccing his Priest multiple times to figure out funky ways to level to level 80 and has arrived at 2 possible specs! What do all Priests have to look forward to when Wrath of the Lich King comes out? Leveling. The grind starts all over again.I’m going to dive right into it and suggest not one but two possible talent builds that you may wish to consider once you get your shiny copy of the new expansion. Oh wait, before we get into it, we’re going to go on 2 assumptions: 1.                              You’re not Shadow (I’m sure my shadowy counterpart Alex Ziebert will address the leveling patterns of our Shadow brethren at some point, am I right?)

It’s gettin’ silly in the underbelly

It’s gettin’ silly in the underbelly   Tipster Dinnerbone threw us a bone (sorry, couldn’t resist) by sending us information on the starting-to-bustle Underbelly of Dalaran. Whereas old builds of the Wrath Beta saw very little in this part of the magical city, the latest build revealed little changes that indicate that the Underbelly could very well shape up to be the funner side of Dalaran. For one thing, the bottles that used to be scattered all over the place were once low-level potions but were now called Underbelly Elixirs. Drinking one — and you really should be careful about drinking magical concoctions found discared in the sewers — can create three known effects. One effect turns the imbiber into a wasp, which is pretty cool except that Dalaran itself is a no-fly zone and instantly zaps the user back into her original form. Using it in the Underbelly lets the player buzz around as a wasp for ten minutes, though. Another effect will turn the imbiber into a naked Tuskarr with a +50 bonus to Fishing skill. The buff lasts 10 minutes, although it only works in

Deep Ret and Prot

Deep Ret and Prot One or two more talents to come for each tree… this is exciting. It’s possible they’ll fill the sparse Tier 10 with tasty talents to lure Paladins from a potential cross-speccing. Reducing talents like Vengeance to 3 points from 5 will also help free up the tree from bloating. Seeing the next builds of Beta should have some pretty good stuff. The trees right now still all need a little polish, not just in terms of the abilities working on Beta, but in terms of each talent’s concept and how it synergizes with other talents in other trees. Divine Purpose no longer makes any sense now that Toughness, lower in the Protection tree, gives a greater movement-impairment reduction. Small incongruencies like this guarantee that there will be more changes to come, hopefully to emend things. Looking over the list that Ghostcrawler mentioned, even if it’s not yet the final scope of work, has got me stoked. The winds of change are blowing, and it feels pretty good.

New abilities at level 8; Branching out with Entangling Roots

New abilities at level 8; Branching out with Entangling Roots At level 8, the new skills you’ll get are Entangling Roots and Healing Touch (rank 2). Entangling Roots adds a much needed crowd control aspect to Druid warfare. So far, you’ve been suffering through as a pure offensive caster, trying to get your spells off as fast as you can before your opponent forces you into melee combat. With Entangling Roots, you now have a spell that has the same range as Wrath and Moonfire, with the same 1.5 second casting time as Wrath, that not only applies damage over time for 12 seconds, but also roots your target into place so he can’t run after you. Now, damage applied to a target that is affected by Entangling Roots will, more often than not, break the root early. And it happens often enough that some Druids neglect using Entangling Roots at all when soloing, except when an additional mob joins a fight. And that’s a shame, because rooting targets properly is fun and makes leveling as a caster a lot easier. Being animals at heart, adding Entangling Roots to our combat sequence lets us

Mage Specs

Mage Specs   Arcane How to Spot: As one of my guildies put it, Mages are very patriotic– their hands are either red, white, or blue. Arcane-specced mages’ hands are usually flaring white, as they often cast Arcane Missiles. Slow is the highest talent in this tree, but you hardly ever see that cast– most Mages, even if they spec Fire or Frost, will go up to 21 points in this tree just to get Presence of Mind (POM), which makes the next spell cast an instant. Pyroblast is actually a Fire talent, but lots of Mages love to cast it with POM, so if you see a big fireball coming at you instantly, you’re looking at a half-Arcane, half-Fire mage. They Can: Conserve mana. Arcane mages have the best mana usage rate out of all three trees. They Can’t: Blow stuff up like Fire mages. Arcane mages are the nerds of the mage community– they get nice bonuses, but they aren’t as flashy as the other specs.   Fire How to Spot: They are blowing you up. Pyroblast, Blast Wave, Scorch, Dragon’s Breath and Combustion are all Fire Mage talents, so if you get hit with any of

More JC info from the beta

More JC info from the beta Last time we met to talk about Jewelcrafting in Wrath, I only knew the names of the various uncommon and rare gems. Now I have the names of the epic gems too, as well as values for the cuts. The epics are called: ·                                 Red: Cardinal Ruby ·                                 Yellow: King’s Amber ·                                 Blue: Majestic Zircon ·                                 Purple: Dreadstone ·                                 Orange: Flawless Ametrine ·                                 Green: Eye of Zul More cool names, in this blogger’s opinion. Except Cardinal Ruby – that sounds a little “blah” to me. Which is not to say I won’t socket them, of course; that +parry rating cut that looks quite tasty for a Death Knight tank. As far as the cuts go, it looks like uncommon Wrath gems are a step up from epic BC

The PvP Basics

The PvP Basics So far, for Death Knights, the biggest PvP problem can be summed up in one word: mobility. Most of a Death Knight’s major damage moves require that a person be in melee range. In part, this can be fixed with a quick application of Death Grip. However, Death Grip has a somewhat restrictive cooldown (which is probably needed), and after a Death Grip, the victim is not snared or stunned, making it easy for them to run back out to range and beyond the Death Knight’s reach. Chains of Ice helps in this matter too, applying a short freeze to allow the Death Knight to catch up, then a snare which, as of this build, has been made physical, making it harder to dispel. In this case, the problem is the cost and cool down, which give more than enough chance for the target to escape simply by waiting out the Death Knight’s Frost runes. What a Death Knight really needs is a more dependable snare, one that’s baseline or in the first few talent tiers, if possible. The suggestion that seems to come up the most regarding this is around the Frost talent Chilblains, which applies

RoleCraft: FIRP

RoleCraft: FIRP Amongst the World of Warcraft roleplayers, there is a bit of a revolution currently happening. My apologies to fellow roleplayers in other MMORPGs, this edition of RoleCraft will focus on this instance, but I’m sure aspects of this event can be easily worked into your favorite roleplaying world. This revolution is a broad and public proclamation towards a paradigm shift of sorts that I have been an advocate of for many years, more recently and especially in this column, but have never given a name to. Thankfully, someone has, along with a detailed explanation and reasonings why. It’s called Full Immersion Roleplaying, or FIRP, and it’s a very good thing. Over the last few months, there has been an increasingly intensifying rallying cry from WoW roleplayers on the official forums for us to pull together and engage in a greater collaborative effort in fostering RP. Blizzard still largely ignores or does very little to curb the immense number of anti-RP players and griefers on RP realms, so the only choice is for legitimate roleplayers to do what they can to insure

WoW: Flash Vulnerability

WoW: Flash Vulnerability In an unusual move, World of Warcraft devs are warning players about an exploit embedded in Adobe Flash: A recent vulnerability has been discovered in popular web-content delivery program Adobe Flash, and it could potentially be used to target World of Warcraft players and accounts.
